The Lexington Medial Society Presents its Highest Honor
Thomas Waid, MD presented the Jack Trevey Award for Community Service
LEXINGTON, KY. Christine Ko, MD, Lexington Medical Society (LMS) Vice President, presented Thomas Waid, MD the Jack Trevey Award for Community Service on October 16th, 2024, at the LMS Dinner Social at the Signature Club. Dr. Waid is a past LMS President, and LMS Executive Board Chair.
The Jack Trevey Award for Community Service is LMS’s highest award. LMS named the award after Dr. Jack Trevey, who was a true leader in our Medical Society and our community, as well as a servant of all of Kentucky as a member of the State House of Representatives and the State Senate. LMS presents the Trevey Award to member physicians who demonstrate outstanding service to the community through volunteerism and/or service in state or local government. This award is not given out every year; it is only given when an individual has served their community in an exceptional manner.
Dale Toney, MD, past LMS and KMA president, who nominated Dr. Waid for this award stated he was deserving of this award, “for the tireless advocacy that he has successfully led for the protection of all organ and bone marrow donors in Kentucky. Because of Tom’s tireless efforts, now donors are guaranteed medical leave from work and the denials of health insurance and life insurance that were occurring to donors as a result of their donations are being blocked. This in turn has led to a robust organ and bone marrow program in Kentucky and has allowed countless Kentuckians to receive their much needed and life-saving donations.”
