Hundreds of physicians commit suicide each year. While we have undergone training to care for patients who are contemplating self-harm, most of us have not had education about how to approach a colleague struggling with the same issues. KMA has organized and is sponsoring October’s LMS Dinner Social, as part of their “Small STEPS, Big IMPACT” campaign, focused on training people to identify suicidal ideation and prevent suicide. This month I interviewed our suicide prevention gatekeeper training featured speaker, Larry McNabb, MRC, CRC, a certified trainer on this topic. Due to the critical importance of this training to save lives, LMS is opening this training to all physicians, members, and nonmembers.
