Medical Practice Spotlight: CommonSpirits Medical Group – Orthopedic Surgery

Earlier this year, Saint Joseph Health embarked on a journey to achieve a significant milestone in its storied history, from Lexington’s first hospital on Linden Walk to the growing and comprehensive system serving central Kentucky today. In July, the health system announced it would adopt the CommonSpirit Health name across its locations after being part of the nationwide organization since 2019. Signs of change have been underway across the organization’s hospitals and locations as the CommonSpirit name becomes more visible in the communities it serves across the country.

On the east side of town, CommonSpirit – Saint Joseph Medical Center – East Lexington, formerly Saint Joseph East, has a new name to illustrate the full breadth of comprehensive care offerings along Eagle Creek and Blazer Parkway. Additionally, CommonSpirit Medical Group is growing with the addition of expert providers, from primary care to orthopedics, and new locations to meet the needs of patients. The system’s physician enterprise and nationwide network enables its clinicians to harness expertise from its sister hospitals in the state and beyond, which has shown proven benefits and marked improvements in the overall quality of care and experience for its patients.

At CommonSpirit Medical Group – Orthopedic Surgery, located in the medical office building at 160 N. Eagle Creek Drive on the Saint Joseph Medical Center campus, Daniel Hackett, MD, serves as a shoulder and elbow orthopedic surgeon alongside the growing team of experts at the practice. In his free time, Dr. Hackett also serves as Secretary-Treasurer for Lexington Medical Society, believing that interdisciplinary care and collaboration with medical colleagues throughout the community is imperative for both clinicians and patients alike. Specifically, the comprehensive care aspect and multifaceted treatment approach directly translates to an improved experience for patients.

“Practicing orthopedics alongside my skilled colleagues on this expanded team has opened doors not just for our practice and the quality of services we provide, but for the patients we serve,” said Dr. Hackett. “Our newly renovated office suite is elevating patient satisfaction, and the convenience of an expert care team, comprehensive services and full service hospital nearby on one convenient campus is helping to create a more connected, patient-focused care experience.”

The team at CommonSpirit Medical Group – Orthopedic Surgery in Lexington expanded with the addition of surgeons Sam Coy, MD, sports medicine; Anup Chattha, MD, knee and hip; Daniel Hackett, MD, shoulder and elbow; David Hamilton, MD, foot and ankle; Margaret Napolitano, MD, hand; Vincent DePalma, DO, spine; Frank Taddeo, MD, family practice sports medicine; Matthew Eads, MD, hand; and Shawn Milburn, MD, interventional pain and spine. It has also added more than a dozen advanced practice providers, with the new suite providing more space for a larger staff and additional rooms for patient exams and treatment.

The health system also recently opened a new Orthopedic Walk-In Clinic at its Express Care location in Palomar, a service providing patients of all ages with fast, convenient care for breaks, strains, sports injuries and more, no appointment required.

This month, CommonSpirit — Kentucky kicks off celebrations to commemorate the health system’s 150th anniversary at its flagship hospital, Saint Joseph Hospital — Lexington off Harrodsburg Road, culminating in October 2027.

Signs and names may be changing, but the ministry remains the same. Here for you then – here for you now – here for you as CommonSpirit.
