Why did you become a physician?
I wish there was a simple answer, multiple reasons that led me to choose medicine as a profession. Right from early childhood, I love science in particular, biology. I was a president of our biology club in college. I am people’s person and do not want to see anyone in distress especially due to a medical illness. I was always intrigued by diseases, and their complexities in diagnosis and management. As a physician, it provided me a perfect platform to connect to my patients and help them in best possible way with dignity and respect.
Educational and professional background?
I graduated from Rawalpindi medical College, Pakistan in 1992. After my initial residency training in Pakistan, I moved to United States and completed my residency in internal medicine from Crozier Chester Medical Center, Upland Pennsylvania in 2000. I did my fellowship in rheumatology and Geriatrics medicine from Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, North Carolina in 2003. After practicing rheumatology in Eastern Kentucky for 4 years, moved to Lexington Clinic as a rheumatologist in 2007. I am also a voluntary faculty at the University of Kentucky as well as Pikeville medical school of Osteopathic medicine.
What are your interest outside of medicine?
Outside of medicine, I enjoy hiking, cooking, golf and pickleball.
Why did you join LMS.
I joined the LMS to connect with community physicians outside of my own group.
It will also provide me an opportunity to interact with medical students and physicians as a coach and mentor.
As a LMS member, we can tackle the public health topics and other health related issues in a more effective and constructive fashion.
