Why Did You Become a Physician?
Quite frankly because I’ve always wanted to help people. I, like most of my peers, felt a calling to serve others. At first I looked towards the profession of pharmacy but as I dove more into the depths of the medical field, I explored elsewhere. My first experiences with the physician/patient relationship showed a close-knit trusted relationship with a common goal of helping the patient. Watching my mentors guide patients and families through easy and difficult times was profoundly impactful. I was in awe of their profession and I wished to join. In fact I felt obligated to do so. Thus I changed courses and pursued medicine.
Tell Us About Your Educational & Professional Background.
I originally attended Purdue University to obtain a PharmD but ultimately decided against it. I graduated from Purdue with a BS in Medicinal Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology and immediately matriculated through Indiana University College of Medicine. At IU, I was enthralled by all fields of medicine but felt the greatest pull towards the surgical field. With completion of medical school, I matched into some warmer weather and spent six years on the Gulf. My first five years completed general surgery training at the University of South Alabama (a great underappreciated surgical training grounds). And later attended University of Texas Houston for my colorectal fellowship. I arrived in Lexington straight out of fellowship and joined CSGA (Colorectal Surgical and Gastroenterology Associates) in September 2022 and have been here since. I am so fortunate to have such a great set of partners that support, nurture and push each other to be better year in and year out.
What Are Your Interest Outside of Medicine?
My wife and I spend most of our free time chasing after our young daughter (1.5yo) and 11yo pup. We frequent the Lexington parks and like most young parents attend our fair share of kiddo play dates. Between practice and family life is moving very fast. I sprinkle some running into the mix but I’m just trying to hold on and enjoy every moment I can with them.
Why Did You Join the Lexington Medical Society?
At first glance, it just made sense to join the Lexington Medical Society. I was new to the Lexington area and desired to know the medical community. LMS has certainly provided that opportunity. Recently I have enjoyed attending LMS luncheons and education sessions. These have been insightful into the practice of medicine but also have created stronger collegial bonds with my medical colleagues here in Lexington.
