Why did you become a physician?

  • As is the usual story, I liked and excelled in my science classes as a kid. I found the human body interesting and used to imagine what our organs looked like. As a kid, I vividly remember thinking that my stomach looked like a ziplock bag and that my brain was like a backpack – when it got full, it was full!  As I got older, the interest continued and here I am.

Tell us about your educational and professional background.

  • I completed medical school at the University of Toledo in Ohio and went on to complete Internal Medicine residency at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle, WA.  I’ve worked as a hospitalist since then, moving to Hawaii, California, and now Kentucky. Around 10 years ago, I started to take on some leadership roles and ended up seeking and completing a Masters in Medical Management at the University of Southern California. My husband and I moved to Kentucky 2 years ago to be closer to our families.

What are your interests outside of medicine?

  • My husband and I love to be outside, and we love to rock climb. We visited Lexington and the Red River Gorge many years ago and this is part of what attracted us to this area. We now own some land and we think of ourselves as self-proclaimed (and very amateur) Forest Service workers!  We’re also learning some important lessons in tick bites and poison ivy….

Why did you join the Lexington Medical Society?

  • I wanted to connect with the medical community here in Lexington. We can all learn from each other. It takes a community to take good care of patients.
